Our Team

The StaffOur team includes 7 ASE Certified Master Technicians have over 68 combined years of prior Subaru dealership experience and training. 

Together, our staff and families own 16 Subarus including our owner, Mike Corbin's 1992 Legacy with over 342,000 and counting. Our honest approach, friendly personal service, and 24 month 24,000 mile warranty on parts and labor are why smart Subaru owners choose Smart Service. 

Mike Corbin

Mike CorbinMike left the dealership network in 1999 to start Smart Service. He wanted to get back to the basic premise of a face-to-face relationship between the customer and their mechanic, which just wasn't a possibility at the dealership level. Mike is currently certified as an ASE Master Technician and has over 13 years of prior Subaru dealership training and experience. He has over 21 years of overall automotive experience and attended the Shoreline CC Automotive training program in 1985. 

Samantha Corbin

Samantha CorbinSamantha helped Mike found Smart Service back in 1999. She now takes care of all the fine details of the business. Bookkeeping, taxes, payroll, benefits, and all of our many office related responsibilities. 

John Melseth

John MelsethJohn graduated from the Arizona Automotive Institute back in 1983. He then went on to compile 18 years of dealership experience and factory training. John’s extensive training and experience allows him to make sure your vehicle is fixed properly according to factory recommendations. His qualifications include: ASE Master Technician as well as an ASE Advanced Engine Performance and is a State of Washington Certified Emission Specialist. John is also our Cobb Tuning installation and performance specialist. John states, "One of the most satisfying aspects of working at Smart Service is my ability to get to know the customer. Back in my dealership days I rarely encountered the owner of the vehicle that I was repairing. Now it is common for me to meet the owner of the car I am repairing. The feeling that I am your personal mechanic is a very rewarding one." 

Ron MacKenzie

Ron MacKenzieRon will make sure your vehicle receives the finest care possible. Ron received his previous dealership training and experience beginning back in 1979 in Spokane. Now he is working independently of the Subaru dealerships for Smart Service and we couldn't be happier to have him aboard. Your car is in good hands with Ron's never ending attention to detail and high quality workmanship. He has a current qualification as an ASE Certified Master Technician. Having quality personnel like Ron on the Smart Service team is just another reason that choosing Smart Service really is a smart choice.

Walt Westerinen

Walt WesterinenWalt Westerinen, ASE Certified Master Technician. Walt is another transplant from University Volkswagen Audi Subaru. He has over 30 years of dealership experience. Walt's cheerful can-do attitude is a great fit for the Smart Service organization. Walt enjoys skiing and camping with his family and friends any time he has the chance. 

Dan Rodriguez

Dan RodriguezDan started with our shop back in 2003 and his hard work and integrity earned him a spot in our apprenticeship program. The program includes side by side training with our master technicians accompanied by Lake Washington Technicial School’s 2 year Automotive Technology program. Dan graduated at the top of his class and is now a full fledged Smart Service technician. When Dan’s not working, he enjoys getting out on his motorcycle. Dan also enjoys his ongoing Subaru Loyale to STi project he’s had since high school. 

Tom Hoag

Tom HoagSmart Service is excited to announce Tom Hoag has joined the Smart Service family. Tom comes to us with 18 years prior Subaru dealership experience most recently at Roy Robinson Subaru for the past 7 years. Tom will be heading up our new shop in Mukilteo. Tom actively participates in his local church and he and his wife enjoy watching and coaching their children in their multitude of sports including baseball, softball, soccer and basketball. Tom also owns a pristine 1992 Legacy with 84000 original miles. 

Kevin Cyr

Kevin CyrKevin Cyr is an ASE Master Technician, an ASE Certified Advanced Level Specialist, and Washington State Emission Certified. Kevin joined Smart Service back in 2007 with the goal of finding a company that he would be proud to be a part of. We’re so glad he decided to join us. Kevin adds a diverse back ground from his dealership professionalism and his “MacGyver” ability to solve just about anything we throw at him. When Kevin isn’t working he’s enjoying time with his family. Whether it’s taking them out for a an exciting boat ride or helping coach his children in their sporting endeavors, he finds a way to have fun. Although he may not admit it, we’re told he’s a pretty good musician also! 

AJ Temple

AJ TempleAJ has been with Smart Service since 2007 and has owned several Subarus, whether as daily drivers or using them in Autocross racing events with his wife. He is the service advisor at our Shoreline location and loves to help our customers with maintaining their Subarus the "Smart" way. When he's not at the front counter, he spends weekends on the golf course, at the race track, enjoying a nice cigar, and even netting a few fish. Matt Olsen

Matt OlsenMatt began as a shop assistant at Smart Service in 2010, and after seeing Matt's potential, we plugged him into our apprentice program. We sponsored his education at Lake Washington Voch-Tech Automotive program. Over the past 2 years, Matt has been still working at the shop while going to school full time. He has continued to learn about Subarus at our store while develop a strong understanding of the fundamentals and principles of automotive repair. Matt has now graduated from the program and his toilet cleaning days are behind him (well mostly). He will be working side by side with our Master Technicians over the next year or so to refine his skills as he transitions into a journeyman Subaru technician. We're very proud of what Matt has accomplished and feel fortunate to have him as a Smart Service employee.
